CHATTAHOOCHEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The only healthcare clinic in Chattahoochee has officially closed its doors as of Friday.
“Effective December 15, 2023. Brian Ham, APRN will no longer see patients at the office of HCA Florida Capital Medical Group – Chattahoochee” reads a sign placed on the front doors of the clinic.
The closure leaves residents without any nearby healthcare. The nearest facility is in another city dozens of miles away.
Many residents voiced outrage and fear when the news of the closure surfaced last month. With the closure officially in place, Chattahoochee members who once relied on the clinic are saying they oppose the shutdown and need a solution.
One local woman said she doesn’t understand why this is happening.
Faison also expressed that this decision will have an impact on those in the community.
“It’s going to hurt people and it’s going to hurt them bad,” she said. “I wish someone would notice that and do something about it.”
City Manager Robert Presnell discussed how he has used the clinic’s services and is disappointed by the clinic’s closing. Mayor Chris Moultry also spoke out against the closure after he received word of the impending closure. He said he asked HCA to reconsider, but his efforts were not successful.
However, the mayor has spoken to local residents and seemingly hinted that a new healthcare clinic is on its way.
“We know how important that clinic is, and we are going to do all we can to make sure that you have healthcare, and I promise that will happen,” he said.
For now, all patients and residents in need of medical attention are being redirected to the nearest emergency room, urgent care facility or walk-in clinic.
