Gone are the days of packed spin and Zumba classes. If you’re not pedaling six-feet-apart from your gym partner, you’re probably logging into an online yoga class in your living room. 

The fitness industry has transformed at warp speed and many gyms, those that are still open, are just catching up. About $10 billion, or one-third of fitness-industry revenue, is expected to shift away from in-person to at-home workouts, the investment bank Harrison Co. found in a survey.

Meanwhile, a crop of online fitness stars are leading us into digital transformation through virtual training programs and personalized apps. Some turned their followings as Peleton or SoulCycle instructors into supportive communities. Others used their massive platforms to help people cope with pandemic stress. And others turned their personal brands into workout gear and supplements.
